How much health cover does your family need?

Tell us about your family

Who needs to be covered?

Loading factor scales with family size. Senior parents (60+) are the highest-cost cohort.

Which city do you live in?

Hospital costs vary 30–60% between metro and tier-2. We adjust your base cover accordingly.

Pre-existing conditions in family

PEDs raise hospitalisation likelihood and claim severity. We bump cover by 20–50%.

If your employer covers you, we subtract that from your required personal cover. Most GMCs are ₹3–5L.

Used to validate affordability of recommended cover. Doesn't affect the cover number itself.

You need

₹16.6 L

in personal health cover, on top of your ₹5 L GMC

City base (Tier-1)₹12 L
Family loading (1.2×)× ₹14.4 L
PED loading (1.5×)× ₹21.6 L
Existing GMC cover− ₹5 L
Required cover= ₹16,60,000

Why one number doesn't fit every family

"₹10L is enough" is a tagline, not advice. Hospital costs vary by city. Family composition changes claim probability. Pre-existing conditions multiply both. Our calculator builds the cover number from the bottom up, using these three real variables.

City base (₹10L–₹15L)

Metro hospitals charge 30–60% more than tier-2 cities for the same procedure. A bypass surgery in Mumbai: ₹4–5L. In Indore: ₹2–3L. We adjust the base cover for where you live.

Family Size (1.0×–2.5×)

More members = higher claim probability per year. Senior parents (60+) hit the highest loading because the 60–75 cohort accounts for ~60% of all retail health claims.

Pre-existing multiplier (1.0×–1.5×)

Pre-existing conditions raise both the frequency and severity of claims. A diabetic patient costs 2.4× more in lifetime claims than a non-diabetic. We bump cover to absorb that.
